Great Booking Tip!

I tape a penny to the back of every 5th door prize slip. After I have gone through my questions I ask who has a penny on the back of their slip? Then I tell them if you will book a show with me tonight you can have a dozen votives with that penny when you hold your show. I make sure and state that's $14.73 with s/h and tax that you are going to get for a penny. It really works for me. I personal bonus the votives at their show.

Linda (sorry Linda - I copied and pasted then deleted your email before I could note the email address & last name!)

Advice For The New Year (from the BoB Message Board)

Post: Does anyone have any advice and/or ideas they would like to share with a new consultant to help her in the new year? Marti

Reply: Here are my resolutions for my business for 2000:

The Plus One Rule: Whatever PL asks I'll always do plus ONE: sponsor 3 then I'll sponsor 4....sell 17,000 then I'll sell 18,000...that way there will be NO room for error....

The DO IT BIG/ DO IT RIGHT Rule: If it's worth doing DO IT BIG & DO IT RIGHT....My favorite quote is "WHY do we never have time to do things right but ALWAYS have time to do it OVER?"

Take every challenge given to you...it's there to enhance your business!

Go to every meeting & absorb all the training you can! Experience in this business is worth its weight in gold!

THE OYM Principle: "OPEN YOUR MOUTH" You are your best "Advertisement" your best "Marketing tool" Let everyone know what you do & be proud of it...go after your business because it won't come after you....

Food for thought: Remember...success in this business begins & ends with YOU! YOU determine your SUCCESS (or lack there of)! Make the best of it!!!

Denise

Happy New Year & wishes for a successful personal business to all!

Contributions to Best of the Boards

I'm receiving a lot of requests for an address to send monetary contributions to help with the upkeep of Best of the Boards. I'm touched and very appreciative, but removed the address from the domain fund page many months ago because it's not necessary.

While it's true that there are costs to maintaining the site, I have chosen to absorb those costs at this point as well as to offer services to the Business Links at cost, enabling them to be the financial support behind BoB. You can show your appreciation to our suppliers by visiting their sites and letting them know how much you appreciate them supporting the site! There are some really awesome products available - stickers, cards, buttons, tablecloths, software, shirts, etc! Check them out today and order some great new business-boosting items for your 2000 PL business!

Those of you who would really like to contribute financially to the site - I would ask that you send an American Cancer Society donation to [Company] in the name of Best of the Boards. I can think of no greater recognition than to see donations to this cause from people who have benefited in any way from the information on BoB!

Yes, I too have been directly touched by cancer - my father died of Pancreatic Cancer in November of 1981. [Company's] support of this outstanding research effort is one of the biggest reasons I am proud to be a small part of this great company.

The address to send contributions to can be found in any of your Reflections magazines, and for convenience I will list it here. Thank you in advance for every penny that goes toward finding a cure, so that we never again lose a family member or a [Company] consultant, Hostess, or Customer to this dreadful disease.

Make checks payable to American Cancer Society or ACS, and mail to:

Updated Jar Fund Raiser Form

Thanks to Nicole Christopher - she has jumped in and voluntarily re-formatted the popular Jar Fund Raiser form with the new Jar Candle Pictures from the 2000 Catalog. It is downloadable in Excel97 format (smallest file size) or for those of you who do not have Office 97 on your computer, I have formatted it in Adobe pdf format.

The Excel file also has a modified fund raiser form for the new Square Indulgences Pillars. If you download the Excel file, you will have both fund raiser templates in the same file (different worksheets). If you are downloading the Adobe pdf files, you will need to do each file separately.

All are available on the newly revised Downloads page.

Regarding the contest itself - there are already two entries - which you can also read on the accompanying page - 1999 Contest Entries

Important Message Board Information!

Why did I remove the threads listing new products? Simply because I have an ultimate responsibility to uphold the company's requested standards of not publishing information on the internet before people have a chance to attend their regionals and workshops.

Don't get me started on hearing excuses or reasons why you can't get to your regionals. I have and have made the same excuses or reasons. I did not say I agree with the rules. I don't and most people who have been around since BoB started can tell you about some of my more outspoken moments.

However, I feel that as much as this site has grown and as important as it has become to everyone, it is not fair to blatantly disregard the company's policies on internet usage.

For example - my region is notoriously last to announce ANY upcoming promotions - our regionals are always toward the end of the month, and inevitably I have already heard most of the promotions by the time I get there. Although it doesn't make it any less exciting for me to hear it then, and as much as I disagree with the lack of uniformity in communicating company news across the country, it is not my decision to make, nor is it yours.

I personally feel that all the news should be released at the same time. Guess what? They don't ask me what I think! That doesn't mean the company doesn't care what you or I think, but think about it. With a company this large and spread across the nation, it would be an impossibility for everyone to know everything at the same time, no matter how it was done. So they do it the best way they know how right now - through the ranks of leadership, hoping that all leaders will do their best to support that premise.

Perhaps someday someone at the home office will realize what a valuable tool we have right here on BoB - and it would be awesome to allow it to be a news-releasing tool. Until that happens, I will continue to remove poorly timed information posts from the message board. Sorry folks.

And one last note...I too, am tired and exhausted from reading bickering and negative posts. I used to think they were valuable in showing the passion we all hold for our businesses, but it's just not worth the bad feelings they create to leave them there.

My only other alternative is to turn this into a moderated board. I don't have the time or the inclination to review every message and I really think we are all adult enough to think before we post, now that the "rules" are a little more clear.

I guess there is one other alternative - removal of the message board. I don't think that's a valid alternative. There's way too much positive reinforcement outweighing the minor negative that we see from time to time. But I don't ever plan to pick up my phone and answer to the home office for things that should not appear here on BoB. We've worked too hard to build it to what it is now to let it be hurt by petty and irresponsible posts.

Along with inappropriate ad banners, unauthorized release of information, and SPAM, negative and personal attack threads will also be promptly removed. So don't bother posting them! Let's use the message board productively and constructively - the way it was intended. That doesn't mean you can't post if you're having a bad day and need a pep talk. Go for it! Just don't tear down someone else in the process. There are many supportive people who offer lots of great advice and insight to new consultants or anyone who posts requesting help. So please - if someone helps you out, return the favor by doing the same for someone else the next time you see a call for help!
